I just want to share my knowledge about how to make your laptop/notebook battery life more extend and hopefully it will help you guys!

1. Minimize the screen brightness. Usually I don’t like my notebook screen too brightness because it make my eyes get tired very soon. In my experience, by turn down the screen brightness, it can make your laptop battery life more longer for 45 minutes to an hour.

2. Turn off bluetooth and wireless device. Many notebook add some device like bluetooh and wireless. Did you recognize if they make your battery laptop drain faster? It will search the nearby device (bluetooth) or hotspot (wireless). If they are not find it, they still keep try to search it. Just turn both of them off right now! Use it if you want to use and turn it off again after already done.

3. Change your mouse USB wireless. Many people use USB or bluetooth mouse using wireless or infrared connection. But they are not realize if it can drain the power of your laptop battery. I recommend you to use the wire cable for mouse to make your battery notebook more life.

4. Install more memory/RAM. I recommend you to install RAM 1Gb minimum to make your hard drive not too often spinning. This will speed up your system and will make it so your hard drive doesn’t have to do as much work.

5. Install Windows XP rather than Vista. If you install Windows Vista, I recommend you to install Windows XP. The Vista OS in my experience really drain your notebook battery faster. The Windows XP use less services to load on the background.

6. Turn off hard drive indexing. Usually by using NTFS partition, there are an option which is enable hard drive indexing. By turn it on the Windows will more or less constantly index your drive which results in the HD spinning even when it doesn’t really need to be. But becareful, by turning off indexing means that if you run a drive search it will take a bit longer.

7. Battery condition. Battery on your laptop have a memory. It will recognize when you plug and unplug the AC power. If the battery is not conditioned every so often, you may see a significant decrease in your battery life. All you need to do is run your battery completely down, letting it shutoff by itself, let it recharge fully without unplugging it, and then it has been conditioned.

That’s all my experience. If you have any other experience about how to maximize your battery life, please share your knowledge here.
