This is not just a little resemble a Blackberry, the Portege G710 is designed exactly the same market as devices such as the BlackBerry 8130 the Portégé stands out, however, that it runs on Windows Mobile, and it is possible using the device with Microsoft Exchange Server to Push E-mail.

This is not a 3G phone – Toshiba Portege G710 is a quad-band GSM device with GPRS and EDGE. There is no WiFi. Although the high-speed data is a nice thing to have, there was really no need for e-mail and Toshiba G710 should include just fine when it comes to messaging.

At 115 x 62 x 13mm and 130 grams in weight, the G710 is quite similar to that of the competition, although a little thinner than most. The 1050 mAh battery, the player G710 for up to 3 hours of talk time and 8 days of standby. Windows Mobile is rather the power of brain cells quickly enough, so that the life of the battery on the G710 is not as good as some of the non-compete.

The 2.46 inch with 320 x 240 pixel screen is pretty standard for this type of aircraft, even if the lack of a touch screen can be irritating, if equipped with a satellite navigation package. On the back of page 2 is a megapixel camera, G710 and memory expandable supports microSD It also comes with Bluetooth phones USB 1.1 and 1.2 connectivity.

No specific release date is known, but we understand that the G710 will be available in early March for about € 220 / £ 150 before taxes, and all holders of subsidies.

An intensification of G500, Portege G900 exploits new the operating software of mobile 6.0 of Windows and has of the 3 “display with slip-outside keyboard QWERTY.

As with the other models, Portege G900 has 3G possibilities, WiFi, HSDPA, EDGE, a module of sweeping of fingerprint, Bluetooth, a camera of 2 megapixel with secondary for the video calls, extensible memory of miniSD and support of VOIP. Media 6.0 of Windows is a pretty new package, but primarily it offers the same useful devices of businesses as 5.0.

This means that G900 is potentially a small very powerful plough horse. Word of Toshiba which G900 should be available summer 2007 although no evaluation was given.

Although Toshiba are initial late in this segment of the market, there does not seem is a terrible fate of competition to the HTC dominating. These two Portégé seem certainly competing, and the glances of devices of fingerprint being very useful. if the combination of the devices and to stigmatize will make an impact remains to see.

Toshiba is a familiar name when it comes to the portable computers, and one which will be even well-known to the mobile readers of gazette for their portable telephones (such as Toshiba TS605). What is to astonish then is that it took thus wish ardently for Toshiba to go up both and to provide some smartphones.

Portege G500 is a rather conventional telephone looking at slide block at first sight. Under G500 minimized outside is a smartphone mobile 5.0 of Windows with the EDGE, the 3G, the HSDPA (we believe that it is tri-band HSDPA) and the support of data of WiFi plus the local connectivity of Bluetooth and USB.

A thing of novel about G500 is the probe of fingerprint which can also be used to direct the menus of compound. We do not have much information on this except that G500 also employs this like safety device. Posting is of the 2.3 “ of the Pixel 240×320 and Portege G500 also has a camera of 2 megapixel with a camera calling visual secondary, memory extensible of miniSD, possibilities of VOIP and the packed up software package is the pretty combination familiar of the devices which comes with media 5.0 from Windows.

The indications are that Portégé G500 will be available very soon in the detail, towards the end of April or beginning or May for around £300/€500.

Even though it’s an impressively slim and lightweight device, it’s considerably thicker and heavier than the Samsung X820 which is 6.9 mm thick and weighs 66 grams, but the Toshiba TS608 is more compact than the 85 gram and 12mm thick Motorola SLVR.

One neat feature on the Toshiba TS608 is the top-mounted media controls, something we’ve only seen before on the BenQ-Siemens E61 – this means that you can control the TS608’s multimedia while it’s clipped to a belt.

Surprisingly, the Toshiba TS608 is only a dualband GSM 900/1800 device, rather than a triband or quadband device. Data connectivity is through GPRS only – the TS608 doesn’t support EDGE or 3G data. Talktime is a maximum of 2.5 hours with 6 days standby time, which is a little on the short side.

Toshiba T608/TS30 specification:
Network: GSM 900/1800
Data: GPRS
Screen: 176×220 pixels, 262k colours
Camera: 1.3 megapixels
Size: Slim “candy bar” 111×47x10mm / 81 grams
Bluetooth: Yes
Memory card: microSD
Infra-red: No
Polyphonic: Yes
Java: Yes
Battery life: 2.5 hours talk / 6 days standby

Overall, the Toshiba TS608 is an attractive and competent handset. However, Toshiba have struggled to make much impact in Europe as their handsets tend to be very similar to Sharp’s who also have an exclusive arrangement with Vodafone. The TS608 is a little different though, and it might meet with more success.

The Toshiba TS608 is already available in some Europe and Asia (where it by Vodafone as Toshiba TS30). Toshiba say that the TS608 will be available on other carriers in Europe, not just Vodafone – this should certainly give this smart looking handset a greater chance of success.
