To make full use of today’s email functions, you need an email account that allows your mail to be managed on a central server. IMAP and Microsoft Exchange servers both work in this way. This document offers a brief introduction to the differences between IMAP, Exchange and POP3 email solutions. It also explains how to set up IMAP and Exchange mailboxes for the most popular business phone operating systems: Windows Mobile 6 and S60.
IMAP is short for »Internet Message Access Protocol . That sounds fairly universal, and indeed it is. This manufacturer- and application-independent protocol enables email on a mail server to be viewed and managed online. With IMAP, your email is intrinsically mobile. IMAP displays the mailboxes and messages on the email servers as if they were on a local computer. The original remains on the server at all times and any changes are recorded there. When you access the email on a computer or mobile device, you are merely downloading a copy. Information relating to the email, such as which folder it’s in and whether or not it has been read, is also saved with the original mail on the server.

Both products have integrated GPS units. The iPhone does not come with a licensed Navigation software package, and so uses a streamed mapping solution (Google Maps currently). It is important to understand that these mapping solutions require substantial data to be streamed in real time when in use.
This pushes potentially significant costs on to the customer when the service is being used. Google maps from a mobile perspective suits the American market substantially better than the South African one due to their ‘all you c The i900 will be included in the ongoing strategic partnership with Garmin in South Africa. This provides a licensed mapping solution for the life of the product, which will incur no additional data costs to the customer when used for navigation.
