Ball Joint Separating Tool Chilton Repair Manual Ferios

The Chilton repair manual for Fieros shows a special tool identified as J-26407 for separating the ball joint from the spindle, but just try and find one, sometime! All it is, is a small wrench operated “jack”,and here is how to make one like the one I used.

Stick one bolt into each end of the drilled out Long Nut, and that’s it! Oil the bolts before using the tool. To use the tool, have the nut off the ball-joint that you are removing. Place the tool between the upper and lower ball-joint threaded studs. Hold one tack welded nut, while turning the loose nut to expand the tool to take up the slack. Do the same with the other side, using force to press the joint out of the spindle.
