    Motorola RIZR Review

January 2, 2007 | Cellular Phone, Gadgets, Motorola | Comments Off

motorola-rizr-closedThe cleverly named Motorola RIZR (or MOTORIZR) originally codenamed the “Capri” is a RAZR-style sliding phone – Motorola’s first for Western markets.

Initial reports say that Motorola have spent a lot of time getting the sliding mechanism just right, resulting in a handset that feels as if it is very high quality. It’s certainly a distinctive looking device too, and Motorola have been clever in including many RAZR family features into the design of the Motorola RAZR.

It’s a little hard to see in these pictures, but in fact beneath the numeric keypad, the RIZR’s design features the “step” that’s a characteristic of the RAZR line of handsets. This is something that was missing from Motorola’s MS600 RAZR Z, a CDMA handset aimed at the Korean market.

motorola-rizr-openOn the back of the Motorola RIZR is a 2 megapixel camera with a flash. On the front is a typical 1.9″ 176×220 pixel display. The Motorola RAZR takes microSD (TransFlash) expandable memory, stereo Blueooth, an MP3 player and support for EDGE data. In fact, overall the RIZR is pretty unsurprising when it comes to technical specifications.

    Motorola RIZR specification:
    Network: GSM
    Data: GPRS + EDGE
    Screen: 176×220 pixels, 256k colours
    Camera: 2 megapixels
    Size: Medium slider, 106x46x16mm / 115 grams
    Bluetooth: Yes
    Memory card: micro SD
    Infra-red: No
    Polyphonic: Yes
    Java: Yes
    Battery life: Not known

It’s not as smart looking as the new Motorola K1, and perhaps the RAZR design doesn’t lend itself entirely to this kind of format. Having said that, it’s a tidy looking device and people will be interested to look at it because it looks very much like a RAZR in some respects.. but very different in others. It will be available in a variety of different colours at launch.
