Fancy Sony Ericsson Z310i and Z310a Lower End Cellphone

    December 11, 2006 | Cellular Phone, Gadgets, Sony Ericsson | 1 Comment

Sony Ericsson lauch two variants before Chrismast day – the Z310a is a quad-band GSM version of the phone for use in the US, the Z310i is a tri-band version for everyone else. Otherwise, pretty much all the features on the Z310i and Z310a are identical. Both of them are very attractive mirrored clamshell phone aimed at the lower end of the market.

Styled somewhat after the Z610i, the Sony Ericsson Z310i is a much more basic handset. Inside there’s a low-cost 128×160 pixel STN display in 65,000 colours (Sony Ericsson say this is because of the display’s “low power consumption”), on the outside is a VGA resolution (0.3 megapixel) digital camera and a 96×64 pixel monochrome display.

sony-ericsson-z310The Z310i has Bluetooth, which is good. Talktime is an impressive 7 hours maximum with up to 12 days standby time. There’s no MP3 player (although the Sony Ericsson Z310i has MP3 ringtone capabilities) and no expandable memory, although the Z310i’s 15Mb of internal storage should be enough for most people.

Sony Ericsson Z310i and Z310a specification:
    Network: GSM 900/1800/1900 (Z310i), GSM 850/900/1800/1900 (Z310a)
    Data: GPRS + EDGE
    Screen: 128×160 pixels, 65k colours
    Camera: 0.3 megapixels
    Size: Compact clamshell, 87x46x25mm / 90 grams
    Bluetooth: Yes
    Memory card: No
    Infra-red: Yes
    Polyphonic: Yes
    Java: Yes
Battery life: 7 hours talk / 12 days standby

However, most people will be interested in the Z310′s looks, and it certainly scores well in this regard. The semi-transparent surface conceals a number of indicator lights, and the Z310i comes with some clever light effects that you can customize so that there is a different colour for different callers. There’s also a feature where you can upload snapshots directly from the Z310i to a blog site.

So, the Sony Ericsson Z310i is a lot of fun, looks good, and it promises to be great value for money. Sony Ericsson say that the Z310i / Z310a should be available from Q1 2007 in Jet Set Black, Blush Bronze and Lush Pink colour combinations.
