The HTC MAX 4G is an impressive specified Windows smartphone, but perhaps the most interesting part is the 4G connection. Plain Old whether UMTS / WCDMA is 3.5G and 3G HSDPA is.

Unlike the N810 if the HTC MAX 4G is also a fully featured mobile phone with tri-band GSM, GPRS and EDGE data support (but not 3G) and also the standard 802.11 b and g wi-fi. WiMAX radio in the works from 2.5 to 2.7 GHz, but not all implementations of WiMAX technology around the world using this frequency.

HTC MAX 4G is quite similar to the specification in the HTC Touch HD. The 800 x 480 pixel touch screen is a slightly larger 3.8 inch, and there is a motion sensor integrated in to automatically change the orientation of broad and large formats. There is a 5 megapixel autofocus camera on the back and a secondary 0.3 megapixel video call camera on the front. Audio output is a standard 3.5 mm socket, and the HTC MAX 4G has an FM radio too.

The MAX 4G also support GPS, 8 GB of memory, 256 MB of RAM and a 528 MHz processor ESM7206A Qualcomm. It weighs 151 grams and measures 114 x 63 x 14mm. Battery life on GSM is 7 hours, and just under 4 hours if using voice over IP.

At a price of 28,900 rubles (about € 840 / £ 670 / $ 1000), the HTC MAX 4G is a very expensive.

The HTC Touch Viva is a slight update of the original HTC Touch, the main improvements of a software update, more memory and better battery life.

The touch screen on the Viva is a 2.8 inch 240 x 320 pixel touch panel. On the back is a fairly basic two-megapixel camera, and Viva Touch Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 and microSD expandable memory. Internal Memory 128 MB is now (64 MB in original), and operating system is Windows Mobile 6.1 with the improved HTC TouchFLO interface running on top.

It is a GSM-only 3G device with no support, even if it does come with WiFi connectivity. When the original Touch is out, the lack of 3G was boring, but the range is also the HTC Touch 3G if you need support UMTS. The interior is a 210 MHz TI OMAP 820 processor, the same as the original Touch. This is not particularly fast, it must get more things.

HTC say that the 1100 mAh battery can now give Viva Touch up to 8 hours autonomy and 11 days in standby mode. If so, this is a significant improvement over the original Touch. Overall, the Touch Viva is a little larger than its predecessor at 105 x 49 x 16mm, but a little lighter than 110 grams.

HTC say that the Viva Touch should be available from early October 2008, but without giving any indication on prices, although our best guess is that this will have a street price of around £ 250 or € 350 without SIM.

HD is the touch screen 3.8 inch WVGA touch that is certainly one of the best around, and it is certainly more impressive than the iPhone 3G 3.5 inch with 320 x 480 pixels panel. When used in the landscape (wide) mode, the Touch HD 800 pixel wide may make it more comfortable Web pages without having to descend the ladder.

It is one of only a very small number of handsets with such a display, the Nokia E90 was 800 pixels wide display for some time, and the new Sony Ericsson X1 is even closer to HD Touch. The Touch GPS support HD, so it can be used with Google Maps or another application. The large touch screen is ideal for satellite navigation, although you will probably want to add a mounting kit if the vehicle used in the car.

It is a quad-band GSM device with EDGE and GPRS data, more support for UMTS 900 / 2100 and HSDPA, giving a maximum download speed of up to 7.2 Mbps. The Touch HD can also support HSUPA (although this is dependent carrier) giving a maximum download speed of 2 Mbps. Its also 802.11b and g WiFi connectivity.

Windows Mobile devices in general suffer from relatively poor cameras, but the HTC Touch HD comes with a camera with 5 megapixel autofocus (but no flash), plus a secondary video calls camera. Although there are many non-Windows phones with better cameras, the HD Touch may be the best for a Windows device.

The standard Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional interface has been improved with the excellent HTC Touch PRO 3D add-on. The standard multimedia support is reinforced by an FM radio and audio standard 3.5 mm socket. The HTC Touch HD can play various AAC, AMR, MP3 and Windows Media formats, the largest video screen.

The processor is a fairly standard Qualcomm MSM7201a operating at 528 MHz, but there is a good 288MB of RAM too which should help with applications. There are also 512 MB of flash memory which can be expanded or using microSD SDHC cards. The large 1350 mAh battery power can reach up to HD for 6.5 hours on 3G with a maximum of 18 days in standby mode, curiously battery life on GSM, is only 5 hours and 16 Autonomy days of standby time. All measures 115 x 63 x 12mm and weighs 146 grams.

The HTC Touch HD is a very impressive, and if it had a QWERTY keyboard, it might be a viable alternative laptop. HTC did not give any indication on price, but say it should be available throughout Europe during Q4 2008, as well as other regions later, perhaps with a slightly different configuration cell .
