Samsung SGH-i320 with Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone

The Samsung i320 is a Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone with a BlackBerry 7100-style keypad, 320×240 pixel display, 1.3 megapixel camera, plus 120Mb internal memory plus microSD expansion and Bluetooth. It comes with all the usual software features you’d expect in a Windows device too.

At 95 grams, this is an impressively lightweight device, and the SGH-i320 measures only 111×59x12mm. It’s a tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 device with GPRS and EDGE, but there’s no 3G or WiFi support here.

Samsung SGH-P900 versus Samsung SGH-P910

The SGH-P900 (pictured) is an unusual looking phone that is slightly reminiscent of the Samsung Z130, with an unusual rotating display. However, the display on the SGH-P900 is designed for digital TV rather than video calling.

The Samsung SGH-P900 is a tri-band GSM device with GPRS and EDGE, a 2 megapixel digital camera, T-DMB receiver, 240×320 pixel display in 262,000 colours, 128Mb of internal memory plus microSD expansion, an MP3/AAC player, dual speakers and Bluetooth. It’s a large device for a GSM phone, at 95×48x27mm and 124 grams, but substantially lighter than the Nokia N92.

Samsung SGH-Z520 Preview

Positioned one notch above the lightweight Z500 3G phone in Samsung’s range, the SGH-Z520 has a 240×320 pixel display main, 2 megapixel primary camera, 40Mb of internal memory with microSD expansion, and MP3/multimedia player, inbuilt “digital power amp” and Bluetooth. There are external media controls too, so the Z520 can be used as an MP3 player when closed.

Samsung SGH-Z710 Swivelling Clamshell

This swivelling clamshell comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 2.2″ 240×320 pixel display, Bluetooth, 128Mb of internal memory with microSD expansion, an MP3/multimedia player, FM radio and TV output. Being a “Z series” handset, this is also a 3G phone.

There are a few camera phones around like this - designed to look as much like a dedicated camera as well as a phone, and the Z710 certainly looks the part, although there’s no optical zoom on this device. Physically, the SGH-Z710 measures 96×48x20mm and weighs 107 grams.

Motorola W220 Review

The Motorola W220 is a RAZR-like clamshell phone with a 128×128 pixel CSTN display in 65,000 colours that weighs 93 grams. It has a long battery life giving up to 8 hours talktime and 12 days standby time, and there’s a built-in FM radio. And really that’s about it.. no camera, no Bluetooth, no MP3 player. It’s only a dual-band GSM device, but it does at least have GPRS and a WAP browser.

Palm Treo 680 Preview

The Palm Treo 680 is a pleasant surprise - a classic PalmOS based Treo smartphone that replaces the two year old Treo 650 without the price and complexity of the Treo 700p or Treo 750v devices.

Palm are pitching the Treo 680 as an entry-level messaging device with consumers in mind, but to be honest it’s a pretty straightforward replacement for the Treo 650. Unlike some other Treo devices, Palm are intending to ship the Treo 680 worldwide, stating that they expect to have around 20 carriers on board by mid 2007. Another slightly unusual feature about the Treo 680 is that it will be available in a variety of colours.

Motorola SLVR L7e Review

Motorola announced the Motorola SLVR L7e (also known as the MOTOSLVR L7e), yet another member of the interminable Motorola RAZR/SLVR series of attractive but incredibly tedious phones.

The Motorola SLVR L7e tweaks the design slightly with a keypad very similar to the Motorola KRZR K1 clamshell, and the result is very pleasing to look at. The SLVR L7e also boosts the camera resolution from a poor 0.3 megapixels to a just-about-adequate 1.3 megapixels. The display is still a 176×220 pixel panel, there’s microSD expandable memory, Bluetooth and an MP3 player.

Toshiba TS608 / Toshiba TS30 Review

Even though it’s an impressively slim and lightweight device, it’s considerably thicker and heavier than the Samsung X820 which is 6.9 mm thick and weighs 66 grams, but the Toshiba TS608 is more compact than the 85 gram and 12mm thick Motorola SLVR.

One neat feature on the Toshiba TS608 is the top-mounted media controls, something we’ve only seen before on the BenQ-Siemens E61 - this means that you can control the TS608’s multimedia while it’s clipped to a belt.
